Vilamoura is one of Europe’s largest tourist beach resorts, covering an area of approximately 20km2. It is ideally located on the Algarve Coast and has something to offer everyone. It is home to a marina, 5 golf courses, dozens of hotels, a casino, a sports club, a lawn bowling club, a tennis centre, a shooting range, a water park, a riding club and a cinema, not to mention numerous shops, bars and restaurants. There are also long, sandy beaches and all manner of water sports available.
The marina is enormous, full of powerful motor-boats and luxurious yachts, and surrounded by luxury apartments some of which are for sale. A number of boats run excursions along the coast towards Lagos and beyond, including big game fishing, sightseeing cruises and romantic sunset cruises.
Vilamoura is surrounded by golf courses, including some of the world’s best courses. The established Old Course and Pinhal Golf Course, the newer Millennium and Laguna Golf Courses and the most recently opened Victoria Clube. Not forgetting of course, the Vila Sol Spa and Golf Resort which is within easy reach.
Some restaurants worth a visit include ‘Willie’s’ restaurant located close to the new Hilton hotel. Willie will offer you excellent international cuisine served in a cosy, relaxed atmosphere. He is also the proud owner of one Michelin star and is recognized as one of the Algarve’s top chefs. For a more casual evening try the family run restaurant ‘Boizzao’ which offers Rodizio style food with live music in the summer months.
Vilamoura has dozens of places offering accommodation, from self catering apartments to 5-star hotels. The new Vilamoura Hilton Hotel which was opened in 2007 offers all the comforts and service of the international chain. Other 5-star hotels include the Lake Resort Hotel, the Marinotel, and the Vilamoura Beach Hotel. 4-star hotels include the Dom Pedro Golf Hotel, the Dom Pedro Marina Hotel, Vila Gale Ampalius, Vila Gale Marina and the Olympus Hotel Apartments.
